Arson Suspected in Massive Fire at Monsanto Research Facility

(ANTIMEDIA) Maryland — Earlier this week, a Monsanto research facility in France was burned to the ground. Monsanto and investigators suspect an arsonist was responsible for the blaze.

Monsanto representative Jakob Witten told Reuters that investigatorsstrongly suspect it was a crime as no electrical or other sources were found.” He added that “No Monsanto sites in Europe have so far been the victim of fires of criminal origin, this is unprecedented violence.”

The fire had multiple points of origin, meaning it is unlikely the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction or other natural causes. Investigators also noticed a strong smell of gasoline in different areas of the site.

France announced in June that it was banning sales of Roundup, Monsanto’s flagship herbicide, amid public pressure and the World Health Organization’s announcement that the product is probably carcinogenic. Further, last month the country announced it was strengthening its ban on genetically modified crops. Monsanto is one of the most hated corporations on the planet and faces particularly strong resistance in France. If the fire is confirmed to have been arson, it is possible this vociferous opposition might have been a motivating factor.

Nevertheless, the recent fire is merely the tip of the iceberg with regard to Monsanto’s recent problems.

The company recently moved to close three different research facilities to save money in the face of declining profits. As Reuters reported last week, Monsanto research centers in Middleton, Wisconsin, Mystic, Connecticut, and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, will soon be closed to cut costs.

Last month, the infamous company announced it would be cutting 2,600 jobs — 12% of its workforce — in order to lower costs. Monsanto also announced a loss of 19 cents per share in the most recent quarter. Profits are expected to remain low throughout the year.

The Associated Press reported that Monsanto lost $156 million in the final quarter of last year alone, and this year is expected to be even worse.

Karen Thompson My thoughts exactly Karen, with all the losses to the co over their issues and the public finally waking up my first thought was hey insurance will bail them out of this one and if France is so anti Monsanto, and GMO then they probably don't want to be working in that country anyway …

  12. Did your god hear the screams of the burning children when Dow's Napalm incinerated their flesh in Vietnam? Or did your god feel that 'communist' children shoiuld be burned alive? Did he hear the screams of millions of Jewish children as they writhed in Bayer's Zyklon B gas in the chambers of Auschwitz? Did he hear the cries of the millions who were shot, knifed and suffocated in the mud of Cambodia's killing fields, Or how about the millions of black slaves who were thrown overboard in mid Atlantic for the sharks to feast on, when the water ran out on the slave ships.

There are no gods; never have been. Time for Humanity to grow up and take moral responsibility for its actions without the great and feared 'Judge in the Sky'.

  13. It was a research facility, not a pesticide production plant. That does not justify the illegal violence, that is on the consciences of whomever carried out the attack; just the same as Monsanto's 'conscience' is responsible for the BILLIONS of animals, insects, fish, birds and plants which its poisons have exterminated, and the MILLIONS of people who have developed cancer and a hundred other diseases as a result of being sprayed with their poisons.

  15. More than likely; their business was going nowhere in France, so rather than pay to dismantle a research facility that probably nobody would want to occupy or buy – they may have burned it down for the PR value and the insurance. Wouldn't put it past them.

  16. That was my first thought too.
But then, we have to really read it what it says. It's a RESEARCH lab. No wait, it was. It's not a Monsanto pesticide storage. So I don't think there were tons of chemicals in there, rather small amounts. And a good amount might have become harmless by the enormous heat. But I can't really evaluate that.
Just saying that since it's a research facility, there's a good chance that only a tiny amount of chemicals made it in the atmosphere.

You are right not to reply because even these judgmental peoples Nasty comments shows that they too , are on the par of the Evil doers and have Hatred in their hearts , for their distain at others beliefs , rather being childish and grow up themselves , they could have chosen simply not to reply or to have ignored you , you know, showing a bit of wisdom and discernment but they just couldn't resist , like a pack of wolves , the Temptation to wield in the axe because the most deadliest weapon in the world isn't Bombs or bullets that kill and maim people . No the deadliest weapon in fact , is the Small Muscle that sits just inside the mouth . That can destroy and break a person's heart . They too are uncompassionate, hypocrites and have no moral responsibility, sat behind a computer screen with all words and No actions to get out there and Take on Authority but I guess fear has gotten the better of them . Funny thing , they haven't a clue why and how they got here in the first place and rely on science .accumulated assumptions by man to please themselves , for they will never have the Answer or an understanding of the universe beyond all of their human comprehension , Yet they believe they have come from "Nothing " and nothing comes from Nothing ..Right ?. They have free will to choose the right path of Good or Evil and reflecting on the scathing attacks on you my friend , they've chosen the latter . I hold no malice or hatred against anyone, beliefs or having no beliefs at all by living in a sense of hopelessness, if that's what they believe . NRN ….no reply needed , as like Mr Arnold . I only Engage in civilised Debate without having the need to belittle any one . All the same If Monsanto can divide and conquer us , Then they're still winning …not us because we continue to argue amongst ourselves like little children in a play ground . . Many Thanks .

Why is there no talk about this. Don't believe those who tell you they are vapor trails. A vapor trail is called a centrail, and last for only about 25 lengths of the plane. Chemtails spread out joining clouds and other chemtrails. This needs to stop, one of the chemicals they are spraying is nano partical alluminum, a main cause of alzheimer's. Watch the sky ,in no way are those trails normal flight paths.

  62. To all of you fence-sitters out there who are concerned about GMOs and Monsanto, I'm a scientist asking you to take pause and observe what so many extremists are doing—you see them promoting terrorism. You should be very concerned about the quality of thought among these people. Please spend time reading scientific journals, meta studies, etc. You will see that there is no evidence that GMOs cause any harm. There is no conspiracy among scientists. Nobody is preventing us from studying GMOs independently and critically. The accusations are conspiracy theories and, frankly, the things that many of these activists say are bizarre and terribly ignorant. Now it's here right in your face—look at them promoting terrorism. Private property was destroyed, the environment was damaged, and somebody could easily have been killed. If you continue throwing in your lot with people like this, you have no credibility—you should feel ashamed to continue your association with them without a sober and serious reassessment of your views because something is obviously wrong here.
