McDonald’s Under Fire after Hidden Footage Reveals the Truth Behind McNuggets

(ANTIMEDIA) Undercover video released on Wednesday by animal rights organization, Mercy for Animals, shows how chickens are treated before being turned into McDonald’s famous Chicken McNuggets.

The graphic footage was filmed at T&S Farm in Dukedom, Tennessee by an investigator for Mercy for Animals, who applied for a job at the Tyson Foods-contracted farm earlier this year.

The covert activist, who worked at T&S in July and August, captured images of workers beating chickens with nails attached to makeshift clubs and stepping on the heads of live chickens. One employee can be heard on video asking, “You don’t work for PETA, do you?” before bludgeoning a chicken to death with a homemade spiked bat.

Both Tyson — who would use the chicken from the plant to supply McDonald’s with meat for their McNuggets — and McDonald’s have since distanced themselves from the Tennessee farm.

“Members of our animal well-being team are investigating, however, based on what we currently know, we are terminating the farmer’s contract to grow chickens for us,” said a Tyson spokesperson via email.

McDonalds echoed those sentiments in a statement of its own: “We believe treating animals with care and respect is an integral part of a responsible supply chain and find the behavior depicted in this video to be completely unacceptable. We support Tyson Foods’ decision to terminate their contract with this farmer.”

Despite the swift “action” by both corporations, this isn’t the first time the animal rights’ group has caught Tyson abusing animals. Just last month, Mercy for Animals released a video exposing the torture of chickens at a different Tyson Farm in Delaware.

You can watch the most recent footage for yourself below.

  2. So blame Tyson and McDonalds when it was been done at a farm not owned by either one of them nor have any employees at the farm. This is an independent farm contracted to provide Tyson chicken who inturns provides products to McDonalds. Shall we focus our outrage on who is at fault.

  3. It's McDonald's job to know where the meat came from to ensure good quality to its customers, and to avoid getting its meat from sources that involve animal cruelty. Using their meat for their food is the same as supporting them, because literally, that's what they're doing.

  5. oh no! bad things are done by some humans! this "expose'" really changed the world, just like all videos like this. what's going on in this video (all videos like this) has 100000000000 different levels… filters… regulations… inspections. it comes from 1000000 layers of people (specific people) being lazy and not giving a shit. so whenever you guys get that all taken care of, let us know. why don't you post videos about child sexual abuse, child prostitution, child sex slavery and on and on and on if you care so much about good and evil? OH?! is that because you aren't concerned about something else totally evil and terrible? "we only care for animals that defend themselves because they need us." OH?! so child sex abuse isn't your speciality? oh wait! OTHER PEOPLE ARE TAKING CARE OF THAT. Right? it's someone else's responsibility… surely someone else is taking care of THAT. see where i'm going?

  6. All very good on commenting… but let me ask you guys, do you still eat MacDonald's?
Seriously is the worse food you can find. Do you think it is good for you? Do you give it to your children?
Grow a brain and a pair of balls, and start eating healthy.

  14. There actually is an easier alternative way to slaughter painlessly. Kosher meat. When you chop the head off a chicken, the brain senses it and trys to tell the body you are dying or got hurt. Since the head is severed, the nerves in the body didn't get the message since the brain is seperated and thus explains why chickens are still alive running about with a severed head. But the kosher way of killing, they place a cut in the throat and blood rushes out, leaving the chicken to die slowly with just a pinch in their neck as the blood leaves their body.

  16. Joel Greenan Well, yes, I suppose. But you know, after all is said and done once you kill me does anything else really matter? Really I guess I'm in good company with St. Francis of Assisi who considered himself to be brothers with all animals, and I would add, especially mammals and Fowles, I mean they experience the world the same way I do, the same emotions experiencing joy, sorrow, caring for their young mourning the loss of one they care about, and the whole gamut of what I see as the human experience.

What really trips me out, like when a six or seven-year-old boy asked his mom would his dog be going to heaven with him and he was told no of course not animals don't have souls. What a supposition. The little boy was extremely disappointed and after consideration wondered if he wanted any part of this heaven. No, I'm not demanding anyone see the world through my eyes, but only to try to see the world through the greatest of all emotion "empathy." We all just need to do the best we can, to expect any more of anyone is really just unreasonable.

  17. I worked on a chicken farm in southern Indiana. The chickens they are "culling" are sick. Every now and then a disease passes through a chicken house and the workers have to cull them. This film is not informative enough. It is a little hard to stomach if you are not used to having to doing what is sometimes necessary when operating ANY farm. Before you get upset about this I challenge you to take on the job so that you can truly understand what is being portrayed here.

  25. To all of those saying, "You don't understand what's going on." – Maybe you don't understand that all this cruelty is unnecessary. There are humane ways to raise livestock and then there are the ways portrayed in this video. If you truly don't care about the welfare of the animals, than care about the nasty hormones they release into their bodies when under stress. I understand that animals have to die for me to eat them… but they don't need to be tortured.

  28. Trish Barnard Then, just stop reading these articles and eat what meat you like without thinking about how they are processed. If you eat meat at all it has to be killed and processed. About their "health status", if left with the other chickens the diseased ones will eventually die and the rest will eat their dead possibly spreading the disease. You have to separate the sick from the healthy. There is no cure for the disease. So you must still kill the sick ones.
Ryan McLaughlin is seen below explaining humane ways to grow livestock, and in this case he is spot on about the hormones the chicken are fed. When "biddies" are received, they easily fit in the palm of your hand. Within approximately 45 days they weigh between 7 and 9 pounds and are ready to be harvested. Some of the diseases are derived directly from the hormone infused food they are given, and affect the gizzard function(does not allow food to be ground fine enough to be processed by the body). But there are also birth defects. I've seen two headed chickens, I've seen where the head was permanently pointed over the back of the body, I've seen 3 legs, two craws, sometimes no craw. The feed is what you should be worried about, and ties directly back to farmers influenced by Monsanto.

I could try to eat right, but keep in mind that being on a budget means I have to eat what is in the grocrey store until I can grow my own. 41. This society pidgeon-holes us "poor-folk" so we almost have no choice but to spend our hard-earned minimum wage on fast food. It is one giant cyclical machine and, if we as the people do not step up and take individual responsibility for our actions, the governement will make these choices for us – the easiest, quickest, and most cost effective way possible – which usually involves the rape and destruction of our one and only home, Earth.

    Post a Reply
  42. Jason Vernon To be productive in the most expedient fashion it is imperative that you cull them quickly so that you can get on with the other tasks that need to be done before nightfall. A typical farmer starts work before sun up, and usually ends right at sun down. That ranges from feeding them to filling up heaters(in the winter) or opening windows and turning on fans(in the summer), watering them, policing up the dead that might have been missed the day before(you smell them before you see them), and keep in mind that you must do this for 4-5 chicken houses that are approximately 30 ft wide by 120 ft long with an average of 500 chickens per house. If there are sick you have to set up decontamination points at both exits(you must wash your boots off before leaving the chicken houses) in order to mitigate passing the disease to another house. There is a refuse pile at the end of each house where the dead chickens go. There are also more chicken houses(usually 8 total) that must be prepped for new chickens(they are delivered every other week), and they must be lvled and aired out, then sealed back up before delivery. The grain is delivered weekly and must be rotated between two silo's, but you have to clean them out as they empty to prevent the leftover grain from starting to rot. And that doesn't count the chores needed around the house the farmer lives in. They might have a garden that needs to be tended to and other animals(dogs to protect the chickens from predators) that need feed and water. Fences still have to be mended. Supply runs need to be made. Workers usually don't stay on long and sometimes the farmer is short for weeks, even months. The work is dirty and exhausting and the pay is low(farm work isn't taxed so below minimum wage isn't uncommon). Now, keep in mind that when a chicken house becomes diseased there are usually 20 or more birds per day that become ill. You do the math here. If you can find the time to be super humane when culling them, you are the greatest farmer in the world.

You raise the chickens, then! If you do things the way you think they HAVE to be, you'll go out of business in a few short years! It has to be done efficiently, so let's see how many of you will be up at 5 AM every morning past the first week! The work is exhausting and constant! It is a 7 day a week operation if you don't have a helper, and like I said you usually end work at or after sun down! 16-18 hour days is the norm. The farmers don't have anger issues, it's a business!

  46. I guess that's just what the system wants us to believe… I personally have found that eliminating all the unnecessary crap from my diet such as soda, bottled juice, sugar beverages in general, granola bars, chicken nuggets, potato chips, candy bar, nasty chocolate and canned food in general have made life more affordable for me… and it actually leaves some extra room to buy some real cheese, some good coffee and quality chocolate… Pasta is cheap and easy to make, healthy pizza is extremely cheap if home made, even tomato sauce and other salsas…. I'm sorry but I think we just ignore what we choose to ignore… Soda and burgers are not a necessity, they are just what the system want us to think is our comfort food to escape from it from time to time… If you just like it, that's a different story, but there are actually choices out there in your own garden, we deserve to invest in a healthier life by realizing it is actually possible…. Just saying… 😛 .

Once in a whilecwecmust cull a sick bird and then we do it just as quickly. There is no purpose to inflicting excess pain to kill. Meat is dead animal but at least I know ours lived well she died fast with out extreme suffering. This video makes me sick but not because I can't handle killing a bird. I mean, I have done the work myself- plucking, skinning and pulling out the warm guys after the bloodshed pumped out. No, this clip makes me I'll because the people doing the harm don't seem to feel it is wrong. They're doing it because it's their job and despite being wrong they continue to do it. They don't feel. That is what makes me sick.

  65. I am no fan of the Golden Arches nor their food (or better said: food-like products). And I do think these large brands have a responsability to ensure their suppliers are "clean". But in this case it is a supplier of a supplier. I think putting it like it was here is strategic wording to gain attention, something I also don't like too much.

    As for the animal crualty:
Only when you buy your meat from a known source like a local farmer or butcher you can be sure about what you buy. But most of us want cheap meat and all meat in mass production comes from places like this chicken farm, where animals are treated as objects and the only thing that matters is cash.

When somebody films a doggy being abused or posts a picture of himself posing with a dead lion, people freak out up to deathwishes and even acts of violence. But to this mass cruelty everyone closes their eyes and looks the other way. Because as soon as it gets uncomfortable, people stick their heads up their #?$%. Most of the world's population is hypocrit like that…

So don't come here and act all appauled when you buy your meat for cheap at the supermarket. You are just as much part of the cruelty as McD or the farmer is!

Chickens turn carniverous on each other if blood splatters around on them. Been like this always, its just worst if you pack them into coops like sardines…they tend to trample each other in their skittishness when there is nowhere to go.

If you eat meat, this should not freak you out, the guy with the stick is mereley pulling sick or injured chickens, a very comon practice. its not just tyson, and its not just McDonalds, how do you "humanely" kill any animal? look at how they kill cows for beef plants, they must kill the animal and they must seperate the sick and injured animals, there is no pretty way to do it. Nobody likes to see the brutal truth, if you saw a focused video on the procedures used in the entire process to bring meat to your dinner table, you might think that it is cruel and unusual, however if you are a meat eater you will probably continue to eat meat regardless of what you see.
