According to an agreement reached in the Eastern Tennessee District Court, Doggart spoke to an FBI informant regarding a plan he had to carry out a violent massacre of a highly-populated Muslim community in Hancock, New York. He stated the following to the informant in a recorded call:
“Those guys [have] to be killed. Their buildings need to be burnt down. If we can get in there and do that not losing a man, even the better.”
He initially aimed to destroy a Muslim center of worship (mosque) and the school that was attached to it. According to the plea agreement filed April 29, 2015, Doggart took “substantive steps to carry out his plan, including traveling to recruit gunners and ‘battle test[ing]’ his M4 rifle. Despite this, Doggart was allowed to plead guilty only to interstate communication of threats and faces a maximum of five years in jail.”
Other than a few local interstate news stations, the mainstream media has stayed quiet on this. It is hard to imagine the hysteria that would be spread from Fox to CNN if the perpetrator had been from a Muslim or Middle Eastern background.
It doesn’t take a genius to realize that in the mainstream media, the word “terrorism” is reserved for those who fit the narrative—only Muslim people could possibly commit violent acts of terror. Conscious or subconscious Islamophobia needs to be instilled in the mind of the docile American public for it to further accept its government’s “war on terror.” It is the same rhetoric that Hitler mastered—creating an enemy to rile up support for insidious, clandestine agendas. Nevertheless, we are privileged to be living in an era where news stories that don’t fall in line with the narrative of the corporate media can be reported via the web—and that is something to be optimistic about amidst this era of disappointment.
