Millions of Unhappy Iranians Comment on Trump’s Instagram Post in Just One Day

(AHT— Although time and again the International Atomic Agency has reiterated that Iran has been holding up its end of the JCPOA (also referred to as the Iran Nuclear Agreement), Donald Trump failed to recertify the agreement and instead decided to lambaste the Iranians in a fiery speech.

World powers were quick to counter Trump’s words and within minutes a joint statement was released by Germany, Britain, and France, restating that indeed Iran has been acting within the bounds of the agreement. Respected fact checking researchers have also found very little substance in Trump’s accusations. Yet, this was not enough to stop the US government from all but reneging on their obligations.

In his speech, Trump took many swings at the Iranians such as calling them a “Terrorist Nation.” Particularly, among the president’s numerous jibes was his use of the fabricated term “Arabian Gulf” when referring to the “Persian Gulf.” Although there is little doubt that the term “Persian Gulf” is the historically correct name for the body of water, for decades Iran’s enemies have been trying to undermine and challenge Iran’s predominance in the region by using such forged names. For many Iranians, this was the last straw.

So the Iranian public, irrespective of political beliefs and religious denominations, took to social media to teach Mr. Trump a history lesson. It is hard to find any issue in Iran powerful enough to galvanize the general public and unite diverse factions that otherwise agree on very little! Since sites such as Facebook and Twitter are blocked in Iran, the people flocked to their app of choice: Instagram.

Now, president Trump’s account has been flooded. All walks of life have left comments giving the president of the United States a piece of their mind. The magnitude of the bombardment becomes evident when looking at the number of comments. Currently, in just one day, Trump’s post on decertification of the Iran deal has received more than 2 million comments. No, that is not a typo. More than 2 million unhappy Iranian comments. The enormity of this number stands out when compared to other Trump posts that rarely receive more than a couple of thousand comments.

One comment reads: “What do you expect? His pockets are filled with Arab dollars from selling weapons. He’d change his mother’s name if they asked him to.”

Another commenter has stated: “The Americans have previously shot down our passenger airplane and overthrown our democratically elected government, making historical forgeries is not a surprise.”

While other commenters have tried to point out what they deem are more important issues. One reads: “This man just failed to honor an international agreement and called our entire nation Terrorists, and you people are concerned about the name of our Gulf?”

Aside from the countless hashtags for the Persian Gulf, #Never_Trust_USA and #NeverTrustUSA are also commonly seen. It makes one wonder, is Donald Trump deliberately trying to make America lose face, even among the Iranians who are not always happy with their own government?
