(TheAntiMedia) The Ferguson grand jury decision could come any day now. If rumors and military preparations are any indication, Darren Wilson will not be indicted. As we sit on the cusp of pivotal point in the history of the civil right’s movement and police accountability, people across the nation are preparing to mobilize.
Apathy is the first line of defense between us and our collective freedom. Should the injustice system not indict Darren Wilson, doing something about it is the first step. The blood being shed in the streets by the racist, corrupt, unaccountable army of the 1%, the pigs, clearly must be stopped by us. As people prepare for there to be no justice in the white supremacist founded justUS system run by America’s oligarchy, debates about tactics have already begun internally. Some supporters are advocating for mass gatherings; others say people should decentralize and get out! in affinity groups to rebel rouse with those they love and trust.
Roll with friends or gather with the masses… WTF do I do?
Actions, marches and assemblies are being organized across America in response to the verdict as we speak. — LA, NYC, St. Petersburg, FL, Alberquerque, NM, Newark, NJ, Baltimore, San Diego, LA, Oakland/SF, Kansas City, Buffalo, NY and more. In response to a call to action, various groups are already hard at work organizing. However, another call for groups to decentralize and act autonomously is also emerging.
Although not everyone may be able to engage in some tactics without extreme consequence to their freedom and/or children, here’s some resources for those who are interested in decentralized mobilizations. Whatever your choice, do your best to prepare and respect security culture. The function of the police is to uphold the status quo by any means necessary. Despite the nature of any protests, police may violently repress any gathering at any time. Police response cannot be controlled, but with preparation and knowledge people may be able to mitigate the damage.
OMG are these people hiding their identity friends or foe?
Upon first encountering black bloc, many people who are conditioned by the corporate media often believe those in black bloc are enemies to protestors. However, black bloc is a popular tactic used in movements across the globe to protect protestors. Should people be obscuring their faces or be in black bloc following the grand jury verdict in Ferguson, DO NOT FILM THEM unless it is a real outside agitator: a police officer. Police have hidden themselves by wearing black bloc in the past… in which case always film the police. However, those who conceal their identity most likely don’t want to be on camera unless the explicitly give permission.
It is unwise to assume that just because someone is in a mask or hiding their face, they are there to engage in property destruction or violence. People use black bloc tactics for a variety of reasons, including to avoid targeting. Police are known to target organizers, media, medics, and those with prior convictions. For those considering black bloc tactics, be aware of the community you are using those tactics in and the repercussions they may have on residents. While these tactics may not impact financial and corporate districts, they could cause police backlash against lower income communities long after the protest has left.
And for all the riot shamers out there, this video is a must watch:
In one of the few cop-free towns left in America, when asked how the town was able to function without the oppression of pigs someone once said:
We protect each other. If there’s a fire in this town, everyone shows up. Even if I don’t like you, I show up and help put that fire out. I can go back to not liking you afterwards. But that’s how we do it. Everyone shows up. No matter what.
Some people may mass gather, others may stick tight to those they love and trust or additional tactics may emerge that have yet to unravel. Hopefully, everyone shows up in solidarity and respects each other regardless of how they choose to fight in this struggle.
It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains. – Assata Shakur
