National Guard Troops Deployed in Ferguson as Police Threaten to Shoot Journalists

National Guard troops have been ordered to Ferguson, MO, after two nights of mandatory curfew were ignored by protesters and rioters following the officer involved shooting death of teenager Mike Brown. Image credit: DVIDSHUB

What looked like a deescalation only a few days ago following the transfer of police activities to the state Highway Patrol, new footage and evidence surrounding the shooting has pushed tensions to new heights.

New autopsy reports show that Mike Brown was shot from a distance several times in the front, with the deadly shot hitting him in the the top of the head. This new evidence seems to corroborate witness testimony given to the media claiming that Brown was not a direct threat to the officer’s safety when he was shot.

After a night of calm, the protests grew more aggressive in nature, leading to riots happening for the last two nights in a row; with more militarization of police being shown in full force. Last night, August 17th, tear gas, armored vehicles, flash bang grenades, rubber bullets, and crowd dispersing sound weapons were once again used on protesters who disobeyed the curfew. Conflicting accounts by police and protesters of Molotov cocktails have been reported. Protesters say that there were not such weapons, and that police claimed there was in order to crack down on the protests.

In response to this escalation, Governor Nixon has ordered the National Guard to Ferguson to suppress this rebellion in the small town, which may lead to an even greater amount of human rights abuses and violations of the 1st amendment. As more militarization of this conflict pours in, it’s likely that tensions will escalate further and that more violence will occur. Activists are expecting a near-martial law situation on the ground in Ferguson tonight.

Journalists on the scene captured intense moments where a police officer even threatened to shoot a reporter while aiming a rifle at his head. Watch the video below:

Much of the press is now confined to a “free speech zone”, with reporters facing arrest or worse if they leave the area,

Last night it was particularly difficult to find live streaming coverage from within the protest areas leading to accusations of press censorship and even accusations of internet censorship in Ferguson. A “no-fly zone” set up by the FAA is still in effect as of now, so no news drones or helicopters are able to capture video of the actual protests.

If a citizen is murdered by police hardly anyone says anything but if an officer so much as gets a scratch the whole world gets emraged and suddenly we find ourselves in martial law and the "president" gets to veto the next election and keep harassing the citizens and provoking them to reign in their Nazi propaganda and its iron fisted dictatorship.

Google it ask friends and then come back to see if you have the same perspective of the police, these individuals think because they have a badge and wear a uniform, get to choose what rights we get to keep including life itself, I'm sorry but our rights are not part of police discretion they can't choose what rights they choose to uphold, our taxes pay their salary the least they can do is do what they are sworn to do " PROTECT and SERVE"

And they aren't paying for it. They'll get away with it. The people on that community are raising hell. They should.

They have fought to protect the interest of the elite and a corrupt government. As a matter of fact this government has lied about every war we have been in since I was born. Korea, Viet Nam, Afghanistan and Iraq just to mention a few, all lies. For this reason our military no longer produces any hero's. A true hero will not fight for a lie dude. So tell me…. 43. Evie McKnight The masters love their little slaves to be polite and peaceful. Less trouble and sure does make subjugation go so smoothly when those subjugated play along so nicely with the rules the oppressors lay down for them…an animal is an animal. And any human being who beats or kills a peaceful person is nothing more than an animal. I wish we would start treating them as such. I'm very dissappointed we as Americans have failed to stand up for our attacked brothers and sisters. What happened to our legacy of defending the people from government abuse?
Every jail where a peaceful protestor was thrown in should've been forcibly shut down and the protestor taken out. Every paddy wagon shouldve had it's tires slashed and officers stripped naked and forced to walk home. Every tear gas canister thrown at a citizen of the United States should be responded to with cruisers being set on fire. Strip them of every asset available to them until they learn they are the servants again…and we are Americans. Where's our fucking backbone people?

  48. Obviously the police response after the first night was spot on. The media and president had criticized them for being heavy handed and militarized. So they were forced to take the hands off approach, which of course only encouraged more looting and terrorizing.

So now the NG gets called out.

I don't get it, when the police use the military tactics they were trained to use for riot control they are "too militarized", when the actual military is called out for police work its a "good move" to many who criticized the first response.

Don't get me wrong I'm for an all out head crushing, flashing banging, tear gassing, shoot to kill all looters after curfew approach. I just don't get where some say the police had it wrong at first, obviously they had it very right from day one. The NG would not be needed had we let the police do their jobs as they were trained. This should be noted.

I think too its time we stop pussy footing with these terrorist thugs…and that's just what they are – terrorists by definition.

When a group uses violence and terror to hold a community hostage and refuses the due process of law, they become terrorists. We don't beg terrorists to be reasonable, we kill them. Plain and simple.

These cowardly thugs are only tough when they are up against unarmed weaker victims. Just like the thug that started it all in the video. I guarantee after a night of sharp shooting a few dozen thieving terrorists, the rest crawl back to the taxpayer funded public housing they crawled out of like the pussies they are

A guy shot and a bunch of human rights abuses against normal people without cowboy hats is off the open-carry, Tea-Party radar. Occupy is there, but they don't do violence. However, I have no doubt that the police in Ferguson would be more numerous than a handful of Federal police in Nevada. And they already proved they are not as tolerant. Over 500 UNARMED people were MURDERED by the police last year. This number has steadily progressed for the last 10 years and with new assault vehicles & military weapons, this number will continue to increase. As ex-military, I swore to defend my country against all threats foreign & domestic and the biggest threat we face today is by our local police – not some hyped up boogie man wearing a turban.

  88. Nathan Bri gets my point. And yes I read the article, along with many others. All witness accounts at first were 'he was down with his hands up' or 'he was fleeing'. Have you read the coroners report??? Have you seen the video shot shortly after with witnesses talking about what they saw (which was him turn to rush the officer BEFORE he was shot)? I agree with standing up for your rights. But can't we handle this like The Bundy Ranch supporters did? They stood in arms in support of our constitutional rights, not looted and burned and destroyed innocent peoples businesses and hurt fellow citizens, supposedly in the name of justice. I stand up for my rights, I know my right, and I don't sit idly by while martial lae is practiced. I said I disagree with the police presence there but I also disagree with how the town, outsiders or not, handled this and I refuse to condone their behavior.

  89. Also, I disagree with police using excessive force. The man they killed recently up north was a tragedy and absolutely the officers are at fault. But as more and more evidence is brought to light, I begin to disagree with the 'poor little innocent kid was shot' story.
