The Biggest (and Possibly Most Terrifying) Company You’ve Never Heard Of

(ANONHQ) Serco. Chances are you’ve never heard of the company. If you have heard of the company, chances are you misunderstand the shear enormity of the global company and their contracts. From transport to air traffic control, getting your license in Canada, to running all 7 immigration detention centers in Australia, private prisons in the UK, military base presence, running nuclear arsenals, and running all state schools in Bradford, Serco, somewhere, has played a part in moving, educating, or detaining people.

serco

New contracts awarded to Serco include a Saudi Railway Company, further air traffic control in the US and also IT support services for various European agencies. You can read more on their future projects here.

A Very Brief History

Serco’s history began in 1929 as a UK subsidiary, RCA Services Limited to support the cinema industry. In the 1960s the company made a leap into military contracts to maintain the UK Air Force base Ballistic Missile Early Warning System. From there, the company continues to grow. Now trading as Serco Group, 2015 trading as of August 11 2015, maintained a revenue of £3.5 billion, and an underlying trading profit of £90 million. The data was presented at JPMorgan in London.

In 2013 Serco was considered a potential risk, and became a representation of the dangers of outsourcing. The U.K. government developed contingency plans in case Serco went bankrupt. When the concerns came to light, Serco faced bans (along with G4S, another outsourcing contractor) from further bidding on new U.K. government work for six months. It wasn’t until Rupert Soames OBE – Sir Winston Churchill’s grandson – took on the job as Serco’s Chief Executive in 2014, that Serco turned a new corner of profit growth.

Serco Today

Serco today is one of the biggest global companies to exist. They have contracts with:

Alliant – the vehicle for IT services across the Federal IT market;

National Security Personnel System (NSPS) – For “(NSPS) training and facilitating services throughout the Department of Defense (DoD) and agencies that needs NSPS training and implementation services;”

Seaport – The NAVSEA SEAPORT Multiple Award contract focuses on “engineering, technical, and programmatic support services for the Warfare Centers.” This is inclusive of Homeland Security and Force Protection, Strategic Weapons Systems, and multiple warfare systems.

CIP-SP3 Services and Solutions (Cost $20 Billion, expiration date 2022) – biomedical-related IT services with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the main objective focused on Biomedical Research and Health Sciences extending to information systems throughout the federal government. Also implementation in several key areas of Biomedical Sciences including legislation and critical infrastructure protection.

The few contracts listed above are among the vast array of transport, detention center and private prison contracts.

Serco, the biggest company you’ve never heard of:

  1. And the government in New Zealand is busy employing them in all fields. They already run some of our prisons and are outbidding all others in many more fields. They skewed figures at a remand prison in Auckland so that they still got bonusses of millions when prisoners were running fight clubs in the prison and people were dying and going unreported. Scam was only uncovered a year later. Now it is public knowledge, but John Key, the prime minister, still loves them and is granting them contracts throughout public sector.

  2. My brother works for them at one of their ATC towers here in the States. If he wants to work in his field of expertise, it his only option due to the age restrictions the FAA places for controllers, no matter if they spent the previous years gaining experience in this field working for the military or not. It has infuriated me for years how they undercut the pay and benefits in certain branches, such as air traffic control, so they can continue getting more and more contracts from various governments. People are afraid to stand up. This is their livelihoods, and unlike most companies, if you burn this bridge there is no way back.

  3. Our prime (primed) minister John Key of course makes a small fortune out of using and promoting in parliament the use of companies like serco. How else would it be possible to have a screwed-up company like this to run our prison system. What I love is the fact that the tax payer in new-zealand is very happy to foot the bill for all this shit. When are the the people of new-zaland going to wake up? It's about time to take the smile of this idiot's face (john key that is) and tell the rest of the government where to take their shit. And last, but not least, forget about the flag bullshit, it will cost you dearly if you go down that road. Just some idea's.

  15. They are being paid your cash to provide a (often poor) service. Then they take the profits (after bonuses and massive salries) and borrow ever more of your cash in an attempt to rule over as many people around the world as possible. Still believe in democartic government do you? How is allowing a private company such massive control and influence, democratic? Did you vote for them?

    Post a Reply
  16. Yeah, and cuts are no doubt made to fund massively increased bonuses and salaries too. Got a similar thing hapenning here too. This time the council bosses created their own Ltd. company……….. To replace the corporation that was restricted in what it could do for it's bosses. I don't doubt that they will all end up running the new company at higher salaries and bonuses that when it was just, the council. Then it will be traded on the stock exchange and sold to the likes of Branson and Serco. Same thing is hapenning to the NHS this year. All of the doctor led CCG's have to employ a NHS Comissioning Support Unit. At end of March this year they will by law all have to be private companies. Wanna bet Serco gets a slice of the new multi billion pound CSU's that are coming from the ashes of the NHS as we know it? There again Branson has already brought a NHS hospital contract. Gotta admire a guy that can do music and airlines that can do surgery as well.
