Would You Eat at Arby’s to Stand up to Bully Cops?

(ANTIMEDIA) Pembroke Pines, FL — Police Sergeant Jennifer Martin rolled up to an Arby’s drive-thru Monday night, presumably hungry after a long day of menacing peaceful people with extortion threats.

Unfortunately for her dinner plans, she encountered at the window a young man whose moral sense and powers of observation somehow survived his American childhood intact. Much to her indignant surprise, instead of being offered the usual complimentary side order of “thank you for your service,” she herself was refused service by the 19-year-old clerk.

After being addressed curtly while placing her order, the salivating sergeant drove up to the pick-up window where she was informed by the manager that the clerk, “doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer.” Admirably, the manager even added that the young man had a right not to.

Shortly thereafter, Sergeant Martin returned on foot, demanding a refund over concern for the food’s safety — perhaps projecting her own profession’s standards and presuming that cop critics must be as willing to contaminate food as cops are to contaminate evidence. She petulantly collected the manager’s information for tattling purposes, along with her money. Meanwhile, the clerk continued to refuse to speak to her.

The Arby’s CEO later called Martin’s chief to apologize, and the company promised to “…be sure that our policy of inclusion is understood and adhered to.

Of course, for the local police unions, this is not nearly enough groveling and punishment for such an egregious act of lèse-majesté. One union official shamelessly referencedthe fatal attacks on the men and women in uniform in America” and the president’s lack of leadership while simpering about the roast-beef-related incident.

He insisted that it “…warrants much more than an apology. […] Until corrective action is taken and the employees involved in this incident are terminated, we are calling for a national boycott of Arby’s.”

Wouldn’t it be something if this call had the same opposite effect as the 2012 attempt to boycott Chik-fil-A? What if supporters of the brave young drive-thru clerk flocked to Arby’s, driving up record sales to make a statement? That would certainly amplify his act of protest, and foil yet another attempt by police unions to bully and silence critics.

Call it #SandwichSolidarity. When police accountability activists risk their jobs — and worse, incur the indignation of vindictive cops — surely eating a few times at Arby’s is not too much a sacrifice to provide one of them with support.

  3. yeah let's hate all cops because the're all evil!!!!! you know there are good police officers out there right? officers who work long hours protecting little bitches like the one who wrote this artice, and some punk kid has the audacity to refuse service to an officer for no reason other than the fact that theyre wearing a uniform? please

  4. I agree. It is a joke that they're allowed to menace peacful people with extortion but that's exactly what they do. That is their job. Extort, intimidate, and protect the corp. This is the reason there are no good cops. They serve and protect corporate law, not the people.

  6. This is a horribly written article. When you report the facts in a neutral fashion, it is news, When you pull random presumptions out of your ass based on your own personal bias it is propaganda. You're making us look like bigger idiots/assholes than the cops.

  7. I see no problem here. You have the right to refuse service to anyone. If you feed cops they'll keep showing up just like homeless people expecting free food

  8. Alex Rabat when you are 'charged' with any crime, it's extortion. Break the corporate law, pay the charge. They uphold corporate law to keep you in check. It's nothing to do with serving the public, keeping us safe, protecting us from harm. They keep you in your place and the corp protected.

  9. Alex Rabat 20 over is kind of reckless but doesn't compare to other bullshit. Me for example, I am facing a fine of near 220 dollars in Missouri. For…. living in missouri having a missouri fishing license which I don't believe I need as a recreation anyway But my Drivers license being from Florida. Now I could have not even given the conservation officer my DL but I was open carrying at 1030pm at a local conservation area alone far from people with no personal recording device so I didn't make a scene of Freedom for fear of my life. Now I have to fight and possibly lose not just a Freedom debate But my Freedom itself over something stupid. This is in no way knocking on police as people, this is against the micro-management of people in their ways of life.

I think it helps the community because you just took a fucking robber off the streets. you need a lesson in reality hun….. that poor robber those damn evil cops just extorted them so the corporations can sell you big macs and playstations

  12. I disagree with the idea that if she's a cop then logically she must spend her day extorting people… don't judge a person until their behavior demands it… on the other hand, if that kid gets fired because of this, he has a great case in court for civil rights violations under color of law… a cop cannot order a fast food company to fire someone…

  13. So the facts are: an employee rightfully refused to serve Cops because he's sick of all the double-standard and terror coming from a large number of Officers with no whatsoever reagard for live or citzens rights. And because ONE person gives a clear statement about his personal view and executes his right to do so the Cops frak out again and terrorize the shop and manager and Police Union goes completly insane over this matter of personal view demanding Arby's to go bancrupt or destroy the life of a young man. Good work Police. Show your true face.

  16. No, but a fast food company can fire someone for refusing to do their job or adhering to their policy. BTW, the officer in question and her department accepted the apology from the company and consider the case closed. It is a police advocacy group that is pushing for termination – not that the writer of the article actually cares about facts.

Note: that doesn't mean doing so is necessarily a SMART business decision, or that all reasons for doing so are equally moral.

My girlfriend's door got kicked down by some guy, they walked right past him and gave my girl a ticket for screaming too loud and disturbing the peace. They are useless for enforcing justice, they only exist to take the weak's money.

The race war is something that is kept going by mainstream media. I'll bet you watch Fox news, huh? Tonight at 10, a black guy killed a while guy because he wasn't black. It's gonna be a good one, you'd better set your DVR now. This guy has NOTHING to do with the race war. If I was in his position, I wouldn't have served the cop either. I'm sick and tired of seeing police officers walk into starbucks, and they're given free coffee just because they're cops. "Well, they're putting their lives on the line"… Please tell me… How many cops have died this year in the line of duty compared to how many INNOCENT people cops have killed in the line of duty? You're on the wrong side of the argument, and I'm embarrassed for you. Wake up and open your eyes you ignorant, gullible putz.

  40. John Sanford Businesses still have the right to refuse service to anyone unless they're discriminating on the basis of race, religion, disability, and other protected classes. As police officers aren't a protected class (apart from prosecutors that seem to love protecting cops), businesses can certainly refuse service.

I could see this maybe being ok if the person (or cop in this case) had walked into the establishment by foot (some establishments say "no shoes, no shirts, no service) but at a drive-thru? You're in your own vehicle; not inside the establishment! This is ridiculous! That manager & employee should be fired for ridiculous discrimination!

The stats claiming speed is the number one factor in car crashes are misleading if someone is going over the speed limit and crashes there car it will be assumed that speed caused the crash even if it didn't since speed limits are all set to low and most everyone goes faster than the speed limit speed will be considered a factor in most car crashes

  73. Firstly, I am not stating I agree or disagree with this post, that is completely beside the point. Most importantly I want to ask, do you believe yourself to be a journalist? This site was erected because you believe that the mainstream media does not do a good job of portraying the truth, if I am not mistaken. However, the way you bring your case is in the way of a hate-argument, and very far away from an objective representation of what might have happened. There is so much opinion and interpretation in this post, it's worse than what the mainstream media does. Honestly, I am sadly disappointed in you. This is all negativity and simply spraying hate, worse than any other media would do. I see Alex's post below me, and I agree wholeheartedly with him. If you criticize something, do it in an ethical and honest way or it loses all value; you have lost all value.

I hope you can learn from this, since I would wish for all to grow and to spread love and peace. It is one thing to disagree with something, but if you react in this manner, no matter what you're standing up to, you've become the same thing.
