(ANTIMEDIA) United Kingdom — Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before, but we can guarantee you haven’t. In fact, this news is hot off the press; so hot, in fact, that we at Anti-Media are in a Panic in our rush to get it out to you, and are hoping it won’t put your Girlfriend in a Coma.

So What Difference Does It Make? We hear you cry, well we will tell you.

But remember, you heard it here first.

Are you ready?

Legendary Handsome Devil Morrissey is seriously considering running for London Mayor. Yes, it’s true. The veteran animal rights activist and vegetarian is considering running as the candidate of a small party focused on animal rights and environmental issues.

The Smiths’ frontman would require 330 signatures of support in order to enter the race. He is said to be considering it very seriously and has been approached by the Animal Welfare Party to enter the upcoming election, due to take place in May 2016.

According to True to You, a webzine considered to be Morrissey’s official website, the singer has commented:

“Animal welfare groups cannot persist simply in order to continue to persist. There must be a governmental voice against the hellish and archaic social injustice allotted to animals in the United Kingdom simply because those animals do not speak English, otherwise millions of very caring citizens are greatly concerned about issues that no one is able to do anything about. What animal protectionists need to say is very well worth saying and well worth hearing. But we cannot just sit around waiting for establishment enlightenment.

In a written statement to CNN, Animal Party leader Vanessa Hudson confirmed the group had approached Morrissey:

“[The] Animal Welfare Party has asked Morrissey to consider standing as a candidate for us in the upcoming election for Mayor of London,” she wrote, adding, “We’d like to see the mayoral contest include the views of a candidate who would seek to champion London not only as a world leading city for people but for animal welfare too.”

Lets face it: whether you agree that Meat is Murder or not, most will admit that This Charming Man has as good a chance as any, and if Bigmouth Strikes Again, it will certainly add some much-needed excitement to the capital’s 2016 mayoral race.
